What you should know about the journey from Košice.

Košice – Vienna route and journey time

From Košice we take the R4 expressway to the Milhosť border crossing and continue along the Hungarian M30 and M3 motorways. Near Budapest we switch to the M0 ring road, then follow the M1 towards Hegyeshalom, and the final stretch runs along the Austrian A4 straight to Vienna-Schwechat Airport. In total it is roughly 512 kilometres.

The usual journey time is around 4 hours 30 minutes including a short refreshment break. Both borders — Slovak-Hungarian and Hungarian-Austrian — are within Schengen, so you cross them smoothly, usually without stopping.

Transfer to Schwechat Airport — when to set off

Vienna-Schwechat Airport (VIE) sits right by the A4 motorway, about 18 kilometres south-east of central Vienna — we drop you off at the terminal without detouring into the city. For a relaxed check-in we recommend being at the airport 2 to 2.5 hours before departure.

In practice that means leaving Košice roughly 7 hours before your scheduled departure. For early-morning flights we drive overnight — a night departure carries no surcharge, the vehicle price stays the same.
