About the route

What you should know about the journey from Košice.

The route across the Tatras and Zakopane

From Košice we take the D1 motorway to Poprad, then via Ždiar to the Łysa Polana border crossing, and through Zakopane we join the Zakopianka — the main road leading straight to Kraków. Roughly 250 kilometres in total.

The drive takes about 3 hours 50 minutes including a short break. The Slovak-Polish border is within Schengen and crossed without stopping — and the Tatra views come free along the way.

Kraków-Balice Airport (KRK)

John Paul II Kraków-Balice Airport is Poland's largest regional airport, with dozens of low-cost connections that do not fly from Košice. It sits by the A4 motorway about 15 kilometres west of the centre — we drop you off right outside the departure hall.

For check-in we recommend being at the airport 2 hours before departure, i.e. leaving Košice roughly 6 hours ahead. For early flights we drive overnight with no surcharge whatsoever.

Why private transport rather than the train

A direct Košice – Kraków rail link practically does not exist — you travel with changes and it takes considerably longer than by car. Buses in turn run only at fixed times and end at the station, not at the terminal.

A private Košice – Kraków transfer takes you door to door at a time you set — for a weekend city break, shopping, a concert or an early-morning departure from Balice.

The price of transport to Kraków

A one-way ride costs 230 € for a vehicle for up to 4 (Toyota Proace City) or 290 € for up to 7 (Ford Tourneo) — including motorway charges, fuel and VAT. With a full minibus that works out at roughly 41 € per person.
